I was interested
in the relationship of the city and the fortifications since in this particular
part of Spain, goes way back since it is the western world's oldest
still-inhabited city founded and settled by Phoenicians around the year 1100
B.C. The research project I propose focuses upon the boundary between the
Castle of Sancti petri (one of the outlying forts constructed for the defense
of the wider area) and the Fisherman Village (abandoned village claimed back
from the military uses) in order to create a connection between the uses of
both area as a collaboration to extend the potential of attraction and as a
center for nautical sport.
The Marina is
the starting point to the island, the original Sancti Petri was a small tuna
fishing village located on a spit of land across the river San Fernando and the
southern tip of the Cadiz Peninsular. The village has been once taken and use
for the Military, but after the village been claimed to restore the memory of
the original place, it becomes totally abandon. In the recent day, it is slowly
redeveloped as leisure and water sports area which ambition to maintain the
memory of Almadrabero town.
The proposal for
the soft architecture located along the strips amphibious land next to the
fortress will be another nautical sport center, reference to some events such
as the America's Cup yacht race. The structure will integrate with the
landscape, seascape as well as the existing building on the site
